The statue Belle was unveiled in 2007 in Amsterdam Red Light District as the world’s first monument dedicated to sex workers. Initiated by former sex worker Mariska Majoor, it was created to promote respect and recognition for sex workers globally, especially in response to violence, exploitation, and the murder of a Hungarian sex worker. Inscripted at the bottom of the statue, in English, is the message "Respect sex workers all over the world."
