This is a statue of Anna Sterky. Anna Sterky started out as a seamstress in Copenhagen, but in Sweden she became a leading figure in improving conditions for working women. The sculpture shows her in profile, with the back illustrating her life through symbols like tailor’s scissors and slogans such as “Tack för stödet” (“Thank you for the support”) and “Arbetets kvinnor systrar kamrater” (“Working women, sisters, comrades”). The pedestal reads: “Anna Sterky 1856–1939. A pioneer of the labor movement, distinguished by her determination and altruism.
